Charles said the following concerning Pre-Employment Integrity Tests Dos And Don'ts:
"Do take these tests seriously. Your potential employers do.
Don' admit to risk-taking behavior. It is a fairly well-established indicant of delinquency/dishonesty.
Don't admit to 'thinking about' theft.
Do pattern your responses to make yourself look conventional, responsible, and self-controlled.
Don't give answers that make you look rebellious, defensive, or moody.
Don't hesitate to choose the socially desirable response, even if that's not how you feel. Studies have shown that people who fake good get better scores. So, if asked to rate your level of honesty, always choose Above Average or Well Above Average.
Don't admit to owing large debts or to anything else that might make your financial/work history look suspicious.
Do finish the test quickly.
Do answer every question, even if you consider some of them too intrusive or offensive.
Do question the examiner about the test's reliability an validity coefficients. At the very least, this alerts him/her to thefact that you know a little something about test theory.
Do ask to see your score. Most tests have multiple cutoffs...If your score falls into the borderline area, you may be given the benefit of doubt.
Do express a rosy world view. Most of us is honest, etc.
Do express a punitive attitude. If you given a choice of punishments, always choose the harshest.
Do practice test.
Don't assume that failing a test makes you a bad person. Integrity test misclassification rates are notoriously high. Remember, as many as 75 percent of all applicants will fail certain tests, and one test apparently had such high standards that not even a nun could pass it.
Do learn your legal rights. If you feel that that you have been unjustly denied employment due to an integrity test, then contact the ACLU or see a lawyer. The overwhelming majority of testing authorities agree that no single test score should serve as the sole basis for a hiring decision.
Don't be afraid to speak up for your rights. If you don't do it, nobody else will."
