Covert

There are several types of covert investigations. Some depend on a person who does not appear to be an interrogator teasing information from the subject while he's unaware that he's being questioned.

One is the fake employment candidate. During interviews, candidates wait in an anteroom to be called. One returns from the 'interview,' sits down next to another and says: 'Boy, that was rough! They asked me if I used drugs.I didn't admit anything. Are you going to tell them?'...

Another type of covert interrogator is the fake friend or sympathizer. The person, who may be an acquaintance, fellow employee, or neighbor, sidles up to you and tries to get you to reveal information useful to the investigation. By pretending sympathy, this type of interrogator can break down the barriers that people normally have, and obtain damaging information.

The undercover cellmate is another variant on the theme. A police officer poses as a suspect, and gets to share a cell with you. Like the genuine criminal cellmate who trades information for deals, the undercover officer will pump you for information. The chances of this happening in the future are greater, now that a court decision (Illinois vs. Perkins) had ruled that it's not necessary for an undercover police officer to give a suspect a 'Miranda' warning under such circumstances. The decision went on to explain that, although 'Miranda' prohibits coercion, it allows deceiving a suspect by use of a fake prisoner. The suspect is not protected against the consequences of boasting about his crimes to people he thinks are fellow felons."

"Students come to understand that much of the 'knowledge' that they are required to be exposed to and 'learn' will be shortly forgotten,and they often think that much of what is presented will have little use to them either now or in the future...

Challenge

If a man's so worried about rejected, why does he like a hard to get woman? There's a difference between hard to get and impossible to get. A hard-to-get woman is a challenge. An impossible-to-get woman is a rejection. If he has the feeling that with you, there's no way, he's not likely to hang around for long. But if underneath your 'no,' there's a 'yes' struggling to get out, he may find that a big turn on. Breaking down your resistance can give him a sense of power and importance. It feels good to know that he's irrestible.

But however much a man wants to know that he counts, he doesn't want to count so much that he becomes responsible for you. Being hard to get not only gives him the feeling that you're worth something. It also gives him the feeling that you can take care of yourself. And that's important. If you can take care of yourself, he won't have to worry about getting 'stuck.' He can get involved with you, change his mind, and get the hell out without feeling he's leaving you bloodied by the side of the road. Most men do not want to hurt you. Most men, in fact, are so worried about hurting a woman that they go to great lengths to avoid doing so. Which is why if you appear helpless and vulnerable, you're likely to find men staying away in droves."

"She had learned that she had something precious and that she had to take care of it, protect it. She feared her sexuality. Wasn't it what made talking to strange men dangerous, and letting a boy 'go too far' bad? "The term 'Gaslighting' comes from the 1944 movie, Gaslight, starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, and Joseph Cotten. In the movie, Charles Boyer tries to convince his wife that she's going insane by contriving incidents designated to make it appear as if she's forgetful, disoriented, and confused. As Ingrid Bergman played a Victorian housewife, Boyer's evil character had total control over her environment, and was able to use the force of his personality to convince Bergman that she had inherited bad genes from her mother, who had died insane .In that limited Victorian environment, without telephone, radio, television, and E-Mail, the techniques available were very few. Boyer hid some of her possessions, to make it appear that Bergman was becoming acutely forgetful. Rooms lighting was by gas, which provided an opportunity for devious mind-damaging. Boyer would sneak into the attic, for example, to rummage among the goods stored in it, and turn on the gaslight, which would cause the pressure to drop in the bedroom below.
